Presenting the Global Migration Media Academy’s Foundation Course in Serbian
All the hard work to prepare the modules of the Global Migration Media Academy GMMA Foundation Course available in Serbian has paid off.
Students and media, communication and journalism professionals are now able to enrol in this online certified course, consisting of three modules, at their own pace and in the dynamics that best suits their schedules.
Equipped with the tools how to understand migration, how to report accurately of the experiences of migrants, how to collect and interpret migration data, as well as how to prevent the spread of misinformation and anti-migrant rhetoric, the Foundation Course raises important questions about one of the most important topics of the 21st century.
The introductory course is designed to unveil the complex and often misunderstood area of migration. Through three basic modules, translated into Serbian, in-depth knowledge of various types of migration is addressed, with key terminology associated with people on the move, and the opportunity to learn how to use and interpret reliable data in reporting on migration, and effectively tell compelling stories of migrants.
“This course provides an overview of the complexity, sensitivity and multi-layered nature of the migration phenomenon. It is important that such a course is available to students, teaching them about informed reporting on migration, based on facts and evidence, thus preparing them for what they will professionally do, without prejudice and bias, “ explained Donatella Bradic, IOM Serbia Chief of Mission.
Initiatives such as GMMA reap the best results, because they directly connect academia, media, international organizations and state institutions in tackling the migration management challenge of fostering objective, ethical, and responsible migration narratives.
Some of the pioneers who have passed the course and made it useful in their line of work shared their insights:
🔹"GMMA Foundation Course equipped me to better grasp all the angles and aspects of this important topic. It actually helped me to be better at my job." - Ivan Simonovic, journalist
🔹 "Global Media Migration Academy gave me the huge scope of the tools on how to open up people in front of camera and how to make them comfortable when talking about the path they went through on the way to the better life. Those courses are full of useful information, tools, resources, and techniques needed for every journalist that wants to cover the migration stories." Kristina Stevanovic, journalist
Global Migration and Media Academy (GMMA) is a unique platform to standardize and mainstream media training on migration and strengthen ethical and accurate reporting.
It is aiming to fill the gap in the specialist and comprehensive training for media on the multiple dimensions of migration and contribute to shaping public opinion and discourse on this expansive subject, by adopting an open-to-all approach.
