Support to Strengthening Migration and Asylum Management in the Republic of Serbia

The second phase of the project „Support to Strengthening Migration and Asylum Management in Republic of Serbia“ has been implemented since 1 June 2018 by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and financed by the British Embassy to Serbia with GBP 224,725. Given that the previous phase of the project has yielded the expected good results and that identified needs have been met, the project continues with building of capacities in order to support everyday practice and implementation of newly adopted laws in accordance with international and European standards.

Given that at the national level, approximation of national legislation to EU regulations has been identified as a priority, and given that high on the agenda is the need to invest in building of capacities of various institutions – particularly the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and the Ministry of Interior – as well as in development of cross-sectoral partnerships, the emphasis has been placed on advancement of knowledge and skills of a broad group of actors to implement the newly adopted regulations in the area of migration and asylum (the Law on Asylum and Temporary Protection and the Law on Foreigners), as well as further development of key national capacities for research and training within the Migration Training Centre.

The project focuses on reinforcing capacities of various actors participating in the procedure of granting an asylum to understand new laws and implement them in accordance with international and EU standards; enabling employees of the Asylum Office to make better quality decisions when conducing cases; development of instruments that should serve as support in everyday practice (Manual and an online-course on international and European standards in the field of asylum and migration and their application and relevance in Republic of Serbia).

Moreover, the project will contribute to further development of the Migration Training Centre. It has been envisaged to establish and educate a group of trainers who will build capacities of service deliverers within reception centres as well as provide support to further organizational development of the Migration Training Centre managed by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration.
