Increasing Capacities For Addressing Irregular Migration In Serbia
Project Duration: 1 September 2015 – 28 February 2017
Donors: IOM International Development Fund
The project that has been implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia since September 2015 is funded by IOM International Development Fund in the amount of USD 130,000. Given that a high increase of irregular migrants puts extraordinary pressure on state’s services and institutions especially those dealing with accommodation, care and reception of migrants, this project aims to contribute to effective and service oriented reception facilities for irregular migrants in Serbia through the implementation of two project components:
- Support Border Police Directorate and reception center in addressing the needs of increased number of migrants by assessing available capacities and resources and developing protection indicators and standard operating procedures to increase preparedness for accommodation. In addition, skills of border police/center staff will be enhanced to provide adequate assistance and support with the specific focus on vulnerable groups. Besides, the information for beneficiaries will be produced and distributed, describing available services.
- Develop a government strategy for addressing issues of irregular migration in Serbia, through drafting a new Strategy document and corresponding action plan for the strategy implementation and transposing the selected objectives of the Serbian Action Plan for Chapter 24 of the Serbian EU Acquis harmonization process.
