Assisted Voluntary Return from Switzerland

The Swiss FOM (Federal Office for Migration) provides operational input and makes final decisions on the individual reintegration assistance to be provided to the returnee. IOM Belgrade has started processing returnees under the AVR Switzerland in the middle of 2002 and this programme is still active. The total number of cases assisted by IOM Belgrade since mid 2002 until December 2011 is: 221 cases or 530 persons.

Voluntary return of irregular migrants stranded and destitute in Serbia and Montenegro November 2005 – July 2007

In cooperation with the Governments of Serbia and Montenegro, IOM Belgrade and IOM Podgorica provided assistance with the voluntary and orderly return of 333 stranded irregular migrants and rejected asylum-seekers from Serbia and Montenegro to their countries of origin between November 2005 and July 2007 and enhanced the AVR framework in cooperation with the relevant authorities.  The project was implemented at the request of the Government of Serbia and Montenegro (at the time State Union) to effectively and humanely returns the rising number of identified irregular migr

Reintegration and Emigration Program for Asylum-Seekers in Germany (REAG) / Government Assisted Repatriation Program (GARP)

This program is a humanitarian assistance program for asylum-seekers; rejected asylum-seek­ers and refugees who are prepared to renounce their right to asylum and have decided to volun­tarily return permanently to their native country or to emigrate to a third country.

The Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme supports migrants with voluntary return to the country of origin or to a third country where returnee is entitled to permanent residence. Assisted Voluntary Return and reintegration (AVRR) is one of many migration management services IOM offers to migrants and governments. It aims at orderly, humane and cost-effective return and reintegration of migrants who are unable or unwilling to remain in host/transit countries and wish to return voluntarily to their countries of origin.
