From Philippines to Serbia Pursuing Labour Opportunities
Italian company for welded pipes applicable across automotive, furniture and household industries, Yugotub, opened the doors for us to its production site in Nova Pazova.
We spoke to the management about dynamic trends affecting the labour market in Serbia and the need to look for skilled workforce outside the country.
The company is quite happy with the dozen workers from Philippines, such as Lado, who shared his year long experience at Yugotub:
“I came to Serbia for work opportunities and career growth. The country has a strong industrial sector and I seized a chance to apply my skills as a machine operator while gaining new skills. “
Lado appreciates the work culture, the cost of living in Serbia, and the opportunity to build a stable future, where he plans to stay to continue growing professionally.
“I am focused on improving my skills and contributing to my workplace. Happy to be here and build my career," he says with optimism.
Leaving home, his family, friends and a familiar life behind, was not an easy decision to make.
“I miss the traditions I grew up with, but I also enjoy adapting to life in Serbia and experiencing new things here.”
Although Yugotub provides a supportive business environment, Lado makes the best out of his spare time.
“I focus on self-improvement, whether it is learning a new language, staying physically active, sampling local dishes, or picking up new skills,” he concludes with a smile.
Labour migration directly contributes to the development and growth of economies and communities. IOM is dedicated to empowering migrants, employers, and authorities through sustainable and innovative partnerships for rights and evidence- based skill mobility.
Committed to ensure that regulatory frameworks are in place to facilitate mobility of workforce and reduce administrative barriers, IOM is helping employers attract and retain workers and supporting growth opportunities for local communities.
